A word about the 100-art-dolls challenge

If you are inspired by what you read here at MyArtSelf, please consider taking up the challenge. Just remember that the challenge isn’t about making lots of stuff. It is about learning, healing and expressing through the process. It is about setting intentions for a life of quality.

There are two important aspects – making the art and writing about what the art shows us.

If you’ve been thinking about getting into blogging, maybe this challenge could be your impetus. It is a good idea to have a blog that focuses on a specific theme or topic. Your own 100-art-(whatevers) challenge could be the theme of your blog.

If you are not yet technically savvy, a really basic blogging program to cut your teeth on is Tumblr. And it is free. So is Blogger, which packs a little more punch.

Typepad costs a little money but it is preferred by many creative types who take their blogging seriously.

The MyArtSelf blog is built on a Wordpress platform hosted on a privately owned website.

Hi, I am sorry but I don’t have a website or blog yet, hope this isn’t a problem?
I like your idea and would like to join in with this project.
Mieke

Hey, no problem, Mieke! I am glad you raised the matter.

Get started however it suits you, but my suggestion is:

Make an art doll (or whatever).
Write about it.
Repeat.

Maybe you would like to keep a regular handwritten journal or, if you prefer, write in a word processing program like Word.

After you have made a few dolls (or whatevers) and written about the process, you might feel more confident about going public with your project.

If you can take digital photos or scan your artwork, then you can easily start the easiest of blogs using www.tumblr.com. Then we can link to each other’s blogs.

I hope this inspires you to give it a shot!

Hi - same as Mieke I have no website or blog as yet, but would like to create one. Is it really as easy as you say, I have no technology savvy whatsoever!! I would love to be part of the 100 art dolls project though - it’s very inspiring! I heard about it through your go-make-art e-zine which I have to say is also brilliant and inspiring. Keep up the good work. I am a bit nervous about submitting work to the web, but I’m running out of excuses! … Lara

Hi Lara

The best thing to do is visit www.tumblr.com, sign up for a free account and play around with making posts and uploading pictures. Give yourself a chance to practice awhile. Re-visit over a couple of weeks. You don’t have to go public until you feel comfortable.

My friend Catherine was like you - not sure about blogging at all. Then she started a Blogger.com blog and NOW she is a fanatic!

Do we need to officailly sign up? I linked this site to my blog and can’t wait to begin!
Joyce

Great, Joyce! I’ll set up a reciprocal link to your blog. Thanks for joining us. Enjoy the challenge.

Love this idea…started making paper dolls about 3 weeks ago and loving it…planned on making one a day but life got in the way on this one but 100 sounds very achievable…will link this to my scrapblog but will set up a new Paper Doll blog asap.
